Hmph! So much for keeping up to date with my blog! However, the past week has been very busy so maybe I've got an excuse!!!
I'll not detail everything that happened during the week or I'll be here for ever but basically:
Monday - a lovely friend from MB came for a cuppa with her husband and wee lad. They were up visiting family and called in with us on the way home. Monday was my "day off" this week so it was only Euan and I that were at home but it was so lovely to see them again. Huge thanks go to Jo for creating MB ... it's created some lovely friendships!
Tuesday - Kevin was still not well (he was off work on Monday and Tuesday) but definitely on the mend! I went to see Dad & Mum in the morning ... they had some friends calling in wtih them to meet Euan. Unfortunately things didn't go quite to plan in the morning as one of their friends fell on her way into the house and badly damaged her shoulder which resulted in her having to go to Casualty. In the afternoon the physiotherapist came to assess Euan ... the appointment went really well ... Euan fell asleep as soon as she started working with his neck so she was able to test him thorourghly and he's got a full range of movements which is great. We've to encourage him to turn his head as much as possible ... and turn it at night when he's sleeping (although he wakes up and grins at me when I try it!). Finally, in the evening I was doing a wee presentation on the work David & Kirsty are doing in Malawi. I was so nervous ... speaking in public is so not one of my gifts! However, all went well and I hope it means that more people will pray for the work that's being done.
Wednesday - a good friend from my Scott-Moncrieff days came to visit us. It was lovely to see her again. In the evening I was at a party at a friends' house ... another late night which doesn't bode well for the boys!
Thursday - in the morning we had an appointment for Sam to see the consultant. The appointment went well and both Kevin & I feel that progress is being made. He's now beginning to talk about the possibility of making a diagnosis which is a step forward. We stressed that we don't want a diagnosis to be made unless it's the right one and for the right reasons. The meeting was really hard for me ... whilst I acknowledge and accept that Sam is different I really kind of fell to bits emotioanlly afterwards. It's been three years since I had that first niggle of doubt that Sam wasn't like his peers and it's been two years since his playgroup leader first sought me out to say she felt Sam had some difficulties. It's been really difficult at times. I wouldn't change Sam for the world ... he's lovely and funny and clever and he's my son - I just want to know how best to help him. In preparation for the meeting I made a list of issues that had been raised by the school or we had noticed ourselves - I decided to balance it out with a list of ways in which Sam has made progress in the past year ... it was a really worthwhile exercise ... my wee lad is doing so well!
On Thursday evening we had the first parents' night at Sam's school. I can't praise the school highly enough ... when Sam was in nursery there the staff worked so hard with him and really took on board his needs. That level of support has continued and Sam is really thriving. It was so encouraging for Kevin & I to hear so many lovely things being said about our wee lad.
Friday - I tried to have a quieter day ... Mum took Connor to Friday Focus for me and I stayed in to do some housework ... Euan obliged by sleeping for me so I got quite a bit done! In the afternoon I spent some time with Dad which was nice - Friday afternoon used to be our time to meet in town for a cuppa but since Sam started school it's not really been possible.
Saturday - Kevin's sister and niece were here for the day ... it was lovely to see them again. We went to the Falkirk Wheel and Sarah & I sat in the coffee shop eating cake while Kevin & Rhianne took the boys to the park ... I'm sure that's how life is meant to be! Connor really took a shine to Rhianne and called her "Dear" ... he'd say "Come and play please dear" "Dear, look at this" and as he went to bed he went round the room "Night night Sammy, night night Euan, night night Auntie Sarah, night night dear" - so cute!
And now it's Sunday again ... we went to our own Church this morning although we'd planned to go with Kevin's Dad and be all together as a family. However, we were running late (for a change) so decided we'd rather walk into our own Church late rather than be late visitors!!!!!
Phew, now I'm needing a wee rest!

Wow, just to get this all down in words makes me tired. Good for you logging it all in. I'm sure you won't regret it. I wish I had the will to make it happen...Lori
